Our Floor Sanding Method
|
Step 1 . The floor is cleared of all remaining carpet and gripper rods: At this point we carry out any repairs to the floor. Step 2 . Once repairs are underway we then go across the floor taking out any nails and staples we can, at this point we can secure loose boards if possible. Step 3 . The sanding machines are started and our team quickly set about grading down the boards with a coarse 24 - 36 grit belt, taking out any cupping while leveling the entire floor, This process continues through the grades upto an 80 grit belt. Step 4 . Now edging around the floor begins starting at a 24 - 36 grit and leading upto an 80 grit.(the fine 80 grit sawdust from the edger will be mixed with an apoxy resin to fill the gaps (if required) on your floor. |
Step 5 .We give the floor a quick vacuum and if needed we apply filler to fill all the gaps, If gaps are over 6mm widw we would need to use fillets, which are thin slices of reclaim pine literary pushed into the gaps (this service is chargeable at £4.00 per m2 mass filling and £3.00 per linear metre for wood fillets). Step 6 . Once filler is dry we continue to belt sand up and down the grain of the boards smoothing the pine to a fine 120 grit. The palm sander now starts smoothing around the edges of the floor to a fine 120 grit, corners are also finely sanded using a Fein © corner sander. Step 7 . The floor is now vacuumed over making sure all dust particles are lifted from the freshly sanded boards.
'The floor is now ready to be stained'. goto step 8 |
Step 8 . Working along two boards at a time stain is applied with a lint cloth or brush from one end of the room to the other until the floor is completely covered. The stain takes about 30 minutes to dry before the first coat of sealer can be applied.
Step 9 . Sealer is applied with a medium haired roller 1 coat at a time with the grain taking out any hard lines (work with wet edges) for 3 coats, there is roughly an hour drying time between coats. We may need to de-nib the floor using a 120 grit by hand or using a palm sander after the first coat has dried (this is due to grain raising caused by the water in our products) |
