A Robot To Help You Clean the Floor

Let us face it: all of us hate household work, especially cleaning the floor. But as luck would have it, we can now relax while someone-or something-does the cleaning.

A consumer electronics company recently released a deceptively simple robotic device that finds its way around your house while picking up debris and dirt along its path. You can either preset seven cleaning schedules into its memory or use a remote control to steer the disc-shaped robot.

It uses an advanced sensor that continually monitors obstacles in the room as it moves around. Its built-in computer analyses the size of the room, obstructions that are around, and the general cleanliness of the floors. It also has unique soft-touch bumpers, which allow it to slow down when it senses an obstacle. After lightly touching it, the robot changes direction. In addition, a separate unit called a virtual wall can be installed in areas that you want off limits to the cleaning robot. Other sensors also allow it to avoid dangerous locations, such as stairs.

The robot uses three cleaning systems to do its job. First, it makes use of side brushes that pick up dirt along corners and wall edges. Second, two high-speed counter-rotating brushes gather food crumbs, pet hair, and other debris. Finally, the robot is equipped with a powerful vacuum that sucks debris where it is deposited into a removable dust bin.

Then, too, the robot can also adjust its cleaning behaviour. For example, if it senses an exceptionally dirty area, it will spend more time cleaning it before moving on to another area.

Now you can put your feet up and let the robot do the hard work.
